Worship Cats

Originally, wild cats lived in Africa. Some moved into Egypt once they discovered all the mice and rats in the Egyptian grain stores. The Egyptians loved that the cats were controlling their vermin problem and could also catch snakes, like cobras. The cats learned to coexsist with humans until they were a part of Egyptian life. I guess the Egyptians really loved them because they even mummified them.
There was also a cat goddess named Bastet who was highly worshiped in Egypt. She had a cat head and woman body and was the goddess of fire, cats, of the home and pregnant women. She even has a center of worship - Bubastis - to which the cult of the cat would travel. The cult eventually died down, but cats became docile and continued to be an important part of Egyptian culture. Today, cats are all over the world catching vermin and being lovable.
